MOD TO THE MAX
Jean Shrimpton sashayed across the pond and made graphic prints, boxy shapes and heavily defined eyes the fashion rage of the '60s. She personified the androgynous yet sexy look of mod style. Jean's native London was the birthplace of mod fashion, which focused on youth culture and a free, independent lifestyle. The clothes reflected this with whimsical prints and urban flourishes like go go boots and Day-Glo colors. The social upheavals of the time, including the sexual revolution and the civil rights movement, pushed open the door for more relaxed and expressive style. Stiff, formal dress like hats and gloves were on the way out. One of the very first super models, Jean Shrimpton showcased the carefree attitude and style of the '60s era.
